History
The NEABI – Center for Ethnic-Racial, Afro-Brazilian, and Indigenous Studies began its activities in 2006 with the aim, at that time, of understanding Inclusive Education as a manifestation of respect for the differences in social, ethnic-racial, cultural, economic, political, artistic, and sports diversity among students. This group operated until mid-2009, after which the center remained dormant until UNESC, the Community University, was encouraged by staff and faculty to take the lead in addressing themes in such a heterogeneous world. Thus, through the Office of Undergraduate Education, it published Ordinance No. 57 of 2014 on September 25, which established the Center for Ethnic-Racial, Afro-Brazilian, and Indigenous Studies to address demands related to Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous issues.
Currently, the center is called the Center for Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies and has representatives from all Academic Units of the university, as it works in partnership with the Office of Graduate Studies, Research, and Extension and the Office of Undergraduate Education, in addition to engaging with other entities that address the same themes.
