About the residency
The Medical Residency Program in Pediatrics aims to solidify the conceptual foundations of the specialty and contribute to its recognition as a significant aspect for the South of the State of Santa Catarina.
The Pediatrics Residency at Unesc has been accredited since 2020. It lasts for 3 years and is organized into different stages of healthcare for children, operating in outpatient clinics and tertiary health care (hospital services). Thanks to the partnership with Hospital Materno Infantil Santa Catarina (HMISC), a public entity granted to the Government of the State of Santa Catarina, which understands the relevance of the proposal and the possibility of implementing the Medical Residency Program in Pediatrics - an inter-institutional action was established with Unesc, which collaboratively developed the current Medical Residency Program in the specialty of Pediatrics. From HMISC's side, it is also noted that the minimum requirements for infrastructure and logistics have been ensured so that activities can be carried out appropriately.
Unesc, as the executing institution, stands out in its work and integration into different learning environments, where the scientific, methodological, and planning support has been characterized by a significant differential in the construction of medical knowledge.
Medical Residency Commission (COREME)
The Medical Residency Commission of Unesc - COREME UNESC - is an auxiliary body to the National Medical Residency Commission - CNRM, established at the University in partnership with health institutions to offer medical residency programs. Its function is to plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the medical residency programs of the institution and the related selection processes.
COREME UNESC was created in 2016 to host the Family and Community Medicine Residency Program (MFC). In 2019, two new programs were accredited: the Pediatrics Program and the Gynecology and Obstetrics Program. Currently, the partner institutions of COREME are: the Municipality of Criciúma, Hospital Materno Infantil Santa Catarina (IDEAS/SES - Santa Catarina), Hospital São José, Hospital São Donato, and the Municipality of Içara. The main practice space for students in the program is concentrated in Primary Health Care in Criciúma and at Hospital Materno Infantil Santa Catarina.
