Basic Concepts of Electrocardiogram (ECG)

COURSE

In-person

Target Audience

Healthcare professionals working in hospitals, outpatient clinics, primary healthcare units, and other health services. Undergraduate health students and healthcare professionals

Justification

Electrocardiography (ECG) is a crucial tool in medicine for assessing the electrical activity of the heart. It records variations in electrical potential during cardiac contraction, displaying important waves and intervals. The ECG is essential for diagnosing cardiac conditions such as arrhythmias and myocardial infarction, requiring precise interpretation of normal and abnormal patterns. This information is vital for the treatment and monitoring of cardiovascular diseases.

General Objective

To train health students or professionals in identifying the basic principles of ECG

Specific Objectives

  • Cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Cardiac electrophysiology
  • Action potential, resting potential, and plateau
  • How to perform an ECG
  • ECG leads (views)
  • Physiological significance of cardiac waves
  • Identification of the average heart rate on the ECG
  • Main alterations
