About

The Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action Policies was launched on June 12, 2018, with the aim of working across various themes of diversity through multiple actions in research, teaching, extension, management, and community engagement. By collaborating with other university sectors that also address specific themes (CERII, SAMA, NEABI, ACOLHER, among others), the Office aims to strengthen and interlink programs to promote the recognition of diversity.

This sector seeks to promote the reduction of attitudinal barriers within the university. It develops and implements policies aimed at ensuring diversity and equity in all spheres of academic life. Its actions encompass the promotion of human rights and a culture of peace, support for social minorities and vulnerable groups, addressing issues related to gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, people with disabilities, and other dimensions of human diversity.

In this way, it has been carrying out its activities with both internal and external audiences through methodologies based on the proposal of education for human rights and the dialectical learning process proposed by Paulo Freire. Thus, it conducts lectures, workshops, short courses, and training for teachers on topics related to diversity, engages in dialogue, and seeks to minimize attitudinal barriers while fostering a culture of respect among individuals. It identifies the unconscious biases behind attitudes that may cause psychological suffering to the social minorities served by the Office. It works on the implementation and monitoring of quota policies and other forms of affirmative action to ensure access and retention of historically marginalized groups in the university. It provides psychosocial support and referrals to students and staff, focusing on issues related to diversity.
